Finally, in 1959, the Nottingham College of Education was established. Nottingham Regional College of Technology was established in 1958. One hundred twelve years later, Nottingham and District Technical College were founded. The university was formed by merging many academic institutions initially from the Nottingham Government School of Design established in 1843.
